Town of Gray, Director of Economic Development

As Director of Economic Development you will provide strategic leadership to plan and promote Gray's unique strengths and expand investment in the town. Business attraction/retention/expansion, tourism, community engagement, strategic planning, and development facilitation are all facets of this important role.

As a key advisor to the Town Council on economic development matters, the advice you give as well as the policies, plans and programs that you recommend will benefit Gray by being innovative, rejuvenating and fiscally sound. Supported by a variety of stakeholders, you will guide and inspire all toward new opportunities that benefit Gray, while fostering a culture of trust and transparency. As Director of Economic Development, you'll be an effective partner with business, government and the community.

You will have proven business development and leadership experience in municipal or broader public or private sector environments, and a successful record working with elected and appointed officials, community stakeholders, investors and staff. You understand the needs of business and your reputation and network is strong. You have a thorough knowledge of current and emerging issues facing local governments. You are able to build rapport with the local businesses and assist them with expansion opportunities within the town, as well as encourage new diversified business ventures to locate on one of our five arterials feeding into the center of Gray. Your academic and professional credentials complement your success. Your leadership approach and business development style is proactive and collaborative. You have a strong sense of community and team, are results driven, and most importantly enjoy your work and it shows!

Our community is a twenty-minute drive from Portland or Lewiston, at the hub of five state highways and the Maine Turnpike at exit 63, Gray boasts an amazing location. Transitioning from rural to suburban, Gray has a population of approximately 7,700 people and covers a total of 46 sq. miles, 43 sq. miles of which is pristine rural forestland and four fresh-water bodies, including Crystal Lake, Forest Lake, Notched Pond and Little Sebago Lake.

The Town of Gray hosts several community events attracting visitors from all around the state. Taking advantage of all 4 beautiful seasons, we feature events from ice fishing derbies, to parades, to 5k road races, the Crossroad challenge and even an NFL 'punt pass and kick' tournament. Gray offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $50,000 to $62,000 plus benefits and an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.
